Paolo Virzì is the new Director of the Torino Film Festival.
He was nominated this evening during the Assembly of the Founding Members of the National Cinema Museum following a proposal by its President Ugo Nespolo and its Managing Committee.

Born in Livorno in 1964, he spent his childhood in Turin and is considered one of the major innovators of contemporary Italian comedy, particularly in working-class settings.

His debut in filmmaking was with “La bella vita” (Living it up) in 1994, the story of a sentimental triangle against the background of the working-class’ irreversible identity
crisis. Fame arrived in 1997 with “Ovosodo” (Hardboiled Egg), and amongst the various hits to be recalled, is the success of “Caterina va in città” (Caterina in the Big City, 2003), “Tutta la vita davanti” (A Whole Life Ahead, 2008) and the recent “La prima cosa bella” (The First Beautiful Thing, 2010).

He has been the recipient of several awards in Italy and internationally.
